May 2012 wrap-up

Yardage Totals 2012:

Kittens. This post is being brought to you from the road, as there is currently no Chez Knitpicky. That's right; we've moved out.  Yesterday, in fact.  Anywho.  Unfortunately, I forgot to pack my scale for weighing my yarn and this month's total isn't quite right.  It will be amended later after I can get a number for my socks I'm working on.  (I'm currently through 1 and a quarter of the second.)  I did want to have a post and on the correct day.  :)

How are you all doing, kittens? Been keeping busy?  I'm going to continue to be MIA here

I Live!

Hi kittens!  Leave me some thoughts down below (like, dislike, ideas how to use this if I do it more...?  Anything?)  And as proof that my shelves are usually not so trashed looking, you can look here for what this place looks like when I'm not crafting like a madwoman and preparing to move.

Have a lovely Sunday! ♥

April 2012 Wrap-Up

Sorry Kittens, I was a bit distracted. Things are super hectic Chez Knitpicky right now, making it very difficult to get to tasks like blogging.   I feel like I'm spending a lot of time apologizing for my absence these days.  I'll eventually be back after we move and get settled.

Yardage Totals 2012:

March: 1350 yds
April: 421

Year to date: 3370 yds or 1.91 miles

As you can see, my yardage for the month was pretty low.  It was all in fine gauge yarn, however, so it wasn't for a lack of trying.  We had a very hot April which made it difficult to knit much, and I definitely did more sewing this month.

April Photo Mosaic

Lately, I've been too tired and high strung to blog.  However, I've been taking a lot of photos on Instgram and I decided to make a little photo mosaic of projects I've been working on this month.  (I'll be back tomorrow to do my April yardage wrap-up post.) Enjoy!

WOW.

Kittens!  I hadn't realized it's been over two weeks since I last blogged.  I assure you I'm not dead; I've actually been rather busy, both knitting and sewing.  (And you know, life stuff like graduations, in-law visits, some medical appointments... stuff, basically.) I've started working on end of the year gifts for The Boy's teachers and I'll blog about those soon, but for now, I'll share a couple Instagram photos of what I've been doing since March ended.

First, I finished a wallet.   I'm pretty stoked about this since I bought the pattern back in 2009 and was too scared to try it out.  (I also purchased the exact same wallet already made by the shop owner at the time.  After 3 years, it was time to replace it.)  It turned out really well and I'm so happy to have a wallet that isn't all soft and floppy from wear anymore.  I might have plans to sew myself several more so I can have different options depending on what sort of a mood I'm in.

I've actually been doing a lot more sewing than knitting as of late.  Like most places, we've had some unseasonably hot weather around here and let's face it...wool and alpaca in your lap when it's almost 90ยบ is disgusting.  My cardigan has been on hiatus after such a fast and promising start, and I've been working at a snail's pace on these:

(Isn't the way the yarn coordinates with the Heather Ross mermaid print dreamy?  I'm swooning over here.)

I've been working on converting the Jaywalker pattern to a toe-up sport weight knit. It's been very frustrating and still isn't quite right, but it's looking like the final sock will work.  Seriously, I had to rip and restart 3 times to get the stitch count right and change needle sizes once along the way.  I hope they're worth all of the trouble they're causing, because I have a lot of new sport weight stripeys that I'd like to use this formula on once it's perfected!

How about you, kittens?  I've noticed that my blog feed has been pretty quiet as of late.  Has the hot weather sent you all into hiding as well, or have you been working on some projects?

March 2012 Wrap-Up

Whew.  It's been quite a day for posts.  Are you still with me, kittens?  Just one more and then I promise to be quiet for a bit.  You all know what the end of the month means....

Yardage Totals 2012:

February: 782 yds
March: 1350 yds

Year to date: 2949 yds or 1.68 miles

Yup, yardage tally-ing time!

I did really well this month, much better than I had expected to do.  It's been quite some time since I've had a month where I knit more than 1,000 yards worth of yarn.  With the weather already heating up--really, what is up with June/July in March?!--I'm afraid this will not happen again anytime soon.  But who knows?  Maybe I'll surprise myself.

2012 Stashdown: Q1

Yes, it's really that time again: Q1 of 2012 Stashdown is complete.  So let's see how I did.

2012 Stashdown Q1:

Yardage In: 1,620
Yardage Out: 7,365
Net Stash Change: -5,745
Ratio (yds out/in): 4.55

I was green, kittens!  Really really green.  What a great start for the year.  I'm hoping to keep up the momentum and slowly chip away at my stash while still enjoying some new yarns here and there.  I'm not sure I'll be quite *this* green though, since I had a lot of unexpected destashing happen this quarter.  Items I've had sitting on my Ravelry trade/sell tab for ages were suddenly inquired about and are now all gone.

Anywho!  I'm trying something a bit different this year since I've been wanting to see a bigger picture of my stash reduction efforts that I started in 2010.  I plan to update this image every quarter so I can compare how things have gone.  (I'm still hoping to knock out that blanket yardage from 2011's Q1.  Oh my, can you imagine my numbers the quarter that happens?!)
